Day 17 of Dumping the Disposables month at Hip Little One saw a review of Sewy Joeys (now Poppets Nest):

"Sewy Joeys are a new Australian-made modern cloth nappy brand that I have had the fun of trialling on my 14 month old daughter for the past couple of weeks. And I have to say that I really am quite impressed!

Okay, I must admit that when I was first asked if I’d like to review a Sewy Joeys nappy, my first thought was 'Another new brand? What could possibly be different about this nappy?!' Well read on….

Sewy Joeys are one size pocket nappies that come in a range of lovely colours and prints as well as the option of snuggly minky outers. A waterproof PUL (polyurethane laminate) layer is built into each nappy, eliminating the need for a cover, and they have a soft suedecloth inner to wick moisture away from baby’s skin. Three rows of snaps at the front allow the nappy to be adjusted to fit babies and toddlers of all ages.

Plus this pocket nappy has a very clever design feature that makes it stand out from the rest… the absorbent insert is sewn on the back of the nappy! So simple but so clever! I’ve always loved the simplicity of pocket nappies where the insert is neatly tucked inside out of the way (great for grandparents!) and now there’s no need to be rummaging around in the nappy basket searching for the right insert to go in the right pocket! Just tuck the insert into the pocket opening at the back of the nappy for all the convenience of a disposable, and flip it out for washing and quick drying.

The Sewy Joeys nappy that I received in the mail had a lovely minky damask outer. I immediately popped it on my daughter – a great fit on the second size setting (my daughter is 9.5kg) – looking good! What about performance? Best to test it overnight I figured. The attached insert has 2 layers of terry microfibre as well as 2 layers of bamboo fleece so it is very absorbent as is. And after a 12 hour night... no leaks. Yay! I also received a double layer bi-fold bamboo booster with the nappy, which I expect would be sufficient to boost the nappy to suit most heavy wetters.

I also tried the nappy on my 2½ year old son (after a bit of cajoling as he is now a ‘big boy’ who wears undies!) and it also fitted him well with plenty of rise at the back, which is where I’ve found some other nappies can be a bit short (he weighs 15kg).

Sewy Joeys nappies are well-sewn, relatively trim-fitting, easy to use and perform very well. They are a nappy that I will happily recommend to my friends!"
